The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act requires each region to establish One Stop Centers. In Virginia, One Stop Centers are called Virginia Workforce Centers. In the West Piedmont region, serving Danville and Martinsville and the counties of Henry, Patrick and Pittsylvania, there are five Centers where you as a job seeker can have access to computer resource labs and so much more.

General Services Available to You

Resource Lab

Each Virginia Workforce Center is equipped with a resource lab consisting of computer workstations with Internet access, fax services, copy machines and printers. Software is available to upgrade basic reading and math skills and other basic workplace skills. If you need assistance, a case manager within the network will be on hand to answer your questions.

Resume Development

Get tips from our professional team of case managers to develop a resume that gets your foot in the door. We have specialized resume development software to help you create an eye-catching resume.

Tutorials

An assortment of tutorials is available to help you prepare for the GED and improve basic reading, math and workplace skills.

Skills Assessment

What are your career interests? Learn how to use your strengths to maximize your opportunities. Discover careers that match up with your talents and interests.

Workshops

Throughout the year, workshops are available free or at a low cost to help you enhance your computer skills, do well on a job interview, fill out applications correctly, write a resume and learn job readiness skills. In a group or one-on-one setting, you also will learn how best to search and find a job of your choice.  Check out our Workforce Center calendar for the next workshop in your area.


Hands-on Assistance

Hands-on Assistance is available to you if are an eligible, unemployed individual who has completed at least one core service listed above, but have not been able to obtain employment, or employed and need additional services to obtain or keep employment that will lead to self-sufficiency.


Training Services 

Training services are available to you if you have met the requirements for intensive services and have not been able to obtain or keep employment. Individual Training Accounts are established to cover the cost of training based upon the your choice of selected training programs that may help you obtain a career which is in demand in our region.
